GROWING UP:
Bobby was born and raised in the greater Athens area of Northeast Georgia.
He honed his leadership skills early on as a member of FFA and President
of both the 4-H club and Oconee County High School’s class of 1981.
After graduation Bobby attended North Georgia College and State University,
where he was the freshman representative of the student government and was
selected as a Freshman of the Month in the ROTC program. He then transferred to Georgia Southern University where he worked full-time and graduated as a Distinguished
Military Graduate with a BBA in Management in 1987. While in college,
Bobby enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard as a Private First Class
and attended the Army’s Airborne School. Bobby was commissioned as a Second
Lieutenant in the Army while attending Georgia Southern.
DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY:
After graduating from college, Bobby was assigned to the 5/3 Field Artillery unit in Giessen, Germany, where he served during the Cold War and witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. By the end of his tour in Germany, Bobby had received an Army Commendation Medal, 5 Army Achievement Medals, and was named a V Corps Distinguished Small Unit Leader for his exemplary leadership skills. After 8 years of dedicated military service, Bobby settled in Oconee County where he continued to volunteer for programs such as 4-H and served on several local committees. He also started his own business, PC POWERUSER, Inc., which grew into one of the largest ACT! Consulting companies on the East Coast. However, after the tragic events of 9/11, Bobby put his life on hold and re-joined the Georgia Army National Guard. Captain Saxon commanded Service Battery 1/214th Field Artillery based out of Toccoa, Georgia on a Homeland Security Mission in North Carolina. Bobby was promoted to the rank of Major in 2004. The next year, Bobby was deployed to Iraq with the 3rd Infantry Division and served as the Division Battle Major for 6 months. He served in Iraq from early January until late December of 2005 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge for his outstanding service to his country. Bobby returned to the United States after his combat service in Iraq and was assigned to the Pentagon’s Army Operations Center.
LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE:
After completing his assignment at the Pentagon in late 2006, Bobby returned to his family and home in Jackson County and re-launched his business, PC POWERUSER, INC. Bobby is an ACT! Certified software consultant and holds more than half a dozen technology certifications. He also co-owns A Better World Insurance Agency located on Baxter Street in Athens, Georgia. The desire to serve and give back to his community is still an important part of Bobby’s life. Major Saxon currently serves in the Georgia Army National Guard as the Plans Officer for the 78th Troop Command located in Decatur, Georgia. Now, as a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, Bobby is ready serve his country in a different manner, trading the sands of Iraq for the halls of Capitol Hill.
